மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பு என்பது ஒரு நாட்டின் மக்களைப் பற்றிய புள்ளிவிவரங்களைச் சேகரிக்கும் ஒரு முறையாகும், இது இந்தியாவில் ஒவ்வொரு 10 வருடங்களுக்கும் நடத்தப்படுகிறது (2021 கணக்கெடுப்பு ஒத்திவைக்கப்பட்டது), மத்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சகத்தின் கீழ் உள்ள பதிவாளர் ஜெனரல் மற்றும் மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பு ஆணையரால் நடத்தப்படுகிறது. இது இரு கட்டங்களாக நடைபெறும்: முதல் கட்டத்தில் வீடுகள் பட்டியல் மற்றும் இரண்டாவது கட்டத்தில் தனிநபர் தகவல்கள் சேகரிக்கப்படும், இதில் சாதி விவரங்களும் அடங்கும், இது எதிர்கால நலத்திட்டங்களுக்கு உதவுகிறது.
2027ம் ஆண்டு, பிப்ரவரி 9ம் தேதி முதல் 28ம் தேதி வரை நடைபெறும் மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பில், 1931ம் ஆண்டிற்குப் பிறகு முதன்முறையாகச் சாதிவாரி விபரங்களும் சேகரிக்கப்படவுள்ளது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
முதல் முறையாக எண்ம (டிஜிட்டல்) தொழில்நுட்ப முறையில் இந்த மக்கள்தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பை நடத்தவும் இந்தப் பணிகளை மேற்கொள்ள ரூ.11,718 கோடி ஒதுக்கீடு செய்யவும் மத்திய அமைச்சரவை கடந்த ஆண்டு டிசம்பா் மாதம் ஒப்புதல் அளித்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
மக்கள்தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பின் போது முதல்கட்டத்தில் 33 கேள்விகள்;
இது தொடர்பாக ஓர் சிறப்பு அலசல்!அரசின் நலத்திட்ட உதவிகள், பொது மக்களுக்கு முறையாக சென்றடைய வேண்டும் என்ற நோக்கத்தில், 10 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒரு முறை, நாடு முழுதும் மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பு பணி நடக்கும். அந்த வகையில், நாடு முழுவதும் மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பு பணி, 2027ல் இருகட்டங்களாக நடக்கும் என மத்திய அரசு அறிவித்து உள்ளது.
அதாவது 2027ம் ஆண்டு பிப்ரவரியில் மக்கள்தொகை கணக்கெடுப்புடன் ஜாதிவாரி கணக்கெடுப்பு நடக்க உள்ளது. இதற்காக வரும் ஏப்ரல் 1ம் தேதி முதல் செப்டம்பர் வரை வீடுகள் கணக்கெடுப்பு பணிகள் நடக்க உள்ளது. 33 கேள்விகள் இந்த கணகெடுப்புப் பணியின்போது கேட்பதற்காக பட்டியலிடப்பட்டுள்ளன என்று மத்திய அரசு தெரிவித்துள்ளது. அதன் விபரம் பின்வருமாறு:

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section & of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948), and in supersession of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs (Office of the Registrar General, India) mamber S.O. 120(E), dated the 7th January 2020 published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (in), dated the 9th Jamanry, 2020, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, the Central Government hereby instructs that all the Census Officers may, within the limits of the local areas for which they have been respectively appointed, ask all such questions from all persons on the items enumerated below for collecting information through the houselisting and housing census schedule in connection with the Census of India 2027 namely
1. Building mumber (Municipal or local authority or census maumber).
2 Census house mimber.
3 Predominant material of floor of the census house.
4 Predominant material of wall of the census house

6 Ascertain use of census house
